Rehabilitated LTTE cadres will contest the August 17 General Election as an independent group in the north.

The rehabilitated cadres, backed by veteran journalist Nadesapillai Vithyatharan, requested the TNA to let them contest under its ticket. However, the TNA refused nomination for the former LTTE cadres, saying that their request will be considered at a subsequent election.

The group of rehabilitated cadres have set up a political group. It will contest as an independent group in both Jaffna and Wanni districts.
