Minister Rajitha Senaratne on Saturday(11) officially stated that he will compete for the forthcoming general election under the 'elephant' symbol.
Addresing a meeting held in Kalutara he further said that several civil organizations will contest at the general election under the ticket of United National Front for Good Governance.
"We did not have enough time to register a seperate symbol. Therefore we decided to compete under the 'elephant' symbol", he added.
It was reported earlier that a group of ex-parliamentarians inculding Rajitha Senaratne and Patali Champika Ranawaka had decided to contest from United National Party (UNP) in protest of the UPFA's decision to give nomination to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to contest the Parliamentary election.
