Karunaratne Paranavithana Resigns: Likely To Contest Election

Secretary to the Mass Media and Information Ministry Dr. Karunaratne Paranavithana resigned from his post and is likely to contest the upcoming general election.

President Maithripala Sirisena accepted his resignation, which was described as a 'policy decision'.

Sources close to him told Asian Mirror that he is likely to contest from the 'elephant' symbol.

Paranavithana served as the Director General of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Director Editorial of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. and the Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation. He also served as Consular General of Sri Lanka in Canada.
 
A past pupil of Lellopitiya Dipitigala Maha Vidyalaya and St. Aloysius Vidyalaya, Ratnapura, Paranavithana obtained his Bachelor of Arts with hounours from the Colombo University and Master of Arts in International Politics from Bradford University, England.
