Shani Abeysekara has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) with effect from 25 August 2020, following an order issued by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
The Inspector General of Police has issued the official police message confirming Abeysekara’s promotion this evening.
With the promotion, Abeysekara will step down from his current position as Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with effect from tomorrow.
The promotion has been granted retrospectively from 25 August 2020 in accordance with the tribunal’s order.
