The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that data is being copied and analysed as part of its investigation into the alleged diversion of USD 2.5 million belonging to the Treasury while settling a debt instalment owed to Australia.
Submitting a further report to Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena, the CID said a technical committee of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) was currently engaged in copying relevant data.
The CID said that once the process was completed, investigators would obtain the copied data, conduct an analysis and submit their findings to court.
Investigators also informed court that data contained in the Treasury’s server was being analysed in connection with the incident.
The CID requested a further date to report on the progress of the investigation.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the case to be recalled on 5 September and directed the CID to submit a progress report on the investigation on that date.
The CID further informed court that statements had so far been recorded from 91 individuals in connection with the investigation.
Those questioned include officials from the Treasury’s Department of External Resources, the Public Debt Management Office and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, according to the report submitted to court.
