The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has suspended water supply to several areas in the Colombo and Gampaha districts due to concerns over possible deterioration of water quality in the Kelani River.
The NWSDB said operations at the Ambatale Water Treatment Plant and the Kelani River Right Bank Water Treatment Plant were temporarily suspended following a notification from the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) regarding the risk of river water quality being compromised near the two intakes.
As a result, water supply to areas served by the two treatment plants has been temporarily disrupted.
The NWSDB said further updates would be issued regarding the restoration of the water supply and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to consumers.
