The Colombo District Courts will not function on Monday, August 31, after a section of the court premises collapsed on Saturday night, the Colombo Law Society (CLS) announced.
In an urgent notice, CLS Secretary Lahiru Welgama said vehicles will also not be permitted to enter the Colombo District Courts premises on Monday due to the prevailing safety concerns.
All cases scheduled to be called on August 31 will instead be called on September 30, 2026, according to the notice.
The CLS said the judges would provide further instructions in due course on how court proceedings would function following the incident.
Requests for the extension of enjoining orders will, however, be entertained upon applications made to the Registrar.
The Colombo Law Society also cautioned lawyers and the public against entering the building, warning that the structure may be unstable following the collapse.
