The Public Health Department filed a case against the Ethul Kotte branch of Indian restaurant chain Dindigul Thalappakatti before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on 24 September, according to reports.
Public Health Inspector G.H.D.C.M. de Silva filed the case on eight charges. They include alleged failures to inspect and maintain restaurant equipment properly and to conduct food inspections as required.
The charges also concern the storage of bottled drinking water alongside dishwashing liquid in a manner that could expose the water to hazardous chemicals. The alleged conditions formed part of the public health concerns cited in the case.
Heritage Biryani Lanka (Pvt) Ltd holds a majority stake in the restaurant chain.
