The Court of Appeal today (19) ordered that a complaint alleging contempt of court against former ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila, and MP Dilith Jayaweera and several others, be taken up again on October 23.

The complaint relates to statements allegedly made by the group during protests against the arrest and detention of former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Sallay in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The complaint was filed by the Fort Magistrate’s Court, seeking action against the individuals over the alleged contempt of court.

After considering the submissions made before it today, the Court of Appeal ordered that the matter be recalled on October 23.
