Maiden Budget of NPP Government Passed with Majority of 114 Votes

The Third Reading of the Appropriation Bill (2024) was successfully passed by Parliament today (21 March), marking the conclusion of the Committee Stage Debate.

A division was called, with 159 votes in favor and 45 votes against the Bill. The division was requested by Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunatileka.

Thus, the proceedings for the “Budget 2025,” which began on 17 February 2025, came to an end today.

President Dissanayake, in his role as Minister of Finance, presented the Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill (Budget Speech) to Parliament on 17 February. The debate on the Second Reading took place over seven days, from 18 to 25 February.
