Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harsha de Silva stated that he was not involved in a recent discussion with the United National Party (UNP) regarding the appointment of Chairpersons to Local Government bodies in which the National People’s Power (NPP) does not hold a 50% majority, and that he has no knowledge of what transpired during the meeting.
Speaking to the media today (19 May), MP de Silva explained that he was participating in a separate discussion at the time and therefore was not present for the one in question.
He added that he is unaware of who participated in the meeting about appointing Chairpersons to Local Government institutions and suggested that any queries should be directed to those who were in attendance.
When asked whether an agreement had been reached with the United National Party (UNP) on this matter, MP de Silva declined to comment.
