Another suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting incident in which a person travelling in a three wheeler was killed in the Halpathota area of Baddegama.
The 23 year old suspect is alleged to have aided and abetted the group responsible for carrying out the shooting. He was arrested following an investigation conducted by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit.
The suspect was arrested in Halpathota last night (29), during which 6 grams and 100 milligrams of heroin were also found in his possession.
The suspect, a resident of Kahawatta, has since been handed over to the Baddegama Police.
He is due to be produced before the Baddegama Magistrate’s Court, while further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Baddegama Police.
Meanwhile, three suspects were arrested on the afternoon of the 27th in the areas of Baddegama, the junction leading to Peduruwatta, and Halpathota, in connection with allegedly aiding and abetting the crime.
Police stated that the arrested suspects are aged between 22 and 33.
They are residents of Kahawatta, Pallebedda, and Hikkaduwa, police added.
With this latest development, the death toll from the shooting has risen to three.
