Former Eastern Province Chief Minister Najeeb A. Majeed was arrested today at Muttur for obstructing election officials and trying to enter a polling station during the postal voting.
He was later released on bail by the Magistrate Courts.
Meanwhile, Campaign for Free and Fair Election (CaFFE) said that the postal voting was largely peaceful. Only a few serious incidents, including the one in Muttur, were reported, CaFFE said in a statement.
CaFFE also said that 14 persons were arrested for alleged election violations today.
The second stage of postal voting began today and will be concluded tomorrow.
