National Freedom Front leader wimal Weerawansa claimed that under a proposed restructuring program, the SriLankan Airlines will be sold. The proposed plan would create the laying off of 2,700 employees, he further claimed.
Speaking at a media conference, Weerawansa alleged that separate companies are to be established for ground handling, training of cadet pilots, catering, management and maintenance of Sri Lankan Airlines. These will then be handed over to other companies, he alleged.
Furthermore, he said that the proposed plan will sell off the government’s share of the national carrier gradually, starting from October this year.
