Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said that Sri Lanka Cricket could face an international ban similar to what was imposed on the Sri Lanka Badminton Association.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony at Mahara, Ranatunga said that the Badminton Association faced this fate because suitable individuals were not holding office in it. He pointed out that there were people who become Presidents of sports associations through favoration. The ministers too have the power to appoint someone, even if they had not played the game. This is bad for any game, he added.

Ranatunga also said that there was a threat of this happening to Sri Lanka Cricket as well. He recalls that the cricket board was said to be corrupt not long ago. However, the Treasurer of that board is still the treasurer of the Interim Committee, Ranatunga said.
