The UNP is likely to propose Karu Jayasuriya's name as the Speaker of the next parliament, informed sources told Asian Mirror.

Jayasuriya, a veteran politician, was confirmed as an MP when his name was included in the national list appointments of the UNP.

Even though the final decision is yet to be taken, it is highly likely that he will be proposed by the UNP.

Since a national government will be formed, Jayasuriya's name is unlikely to attract significant opposition in the next parliament.
