Several Western Provincial Council members have reportedly made requests to be appointed to the post of the Chief Minister, which will become vacant with the election of Prasanna Ranatunga to the parliament.

 

Ranatunga led the preference vote in the Gampaha District and was elected to parliament under the UPFA ticket.

 

It was reported that Hector Bethmage and Gamini Thilakasiri, two veteran councilors from the Colombo District were canvassing to be appointed as Chief Minister. Meanwhile, Upali Kodikara is also reportedly pushing for the post.

 

Furthermore, Provincial Council Chairman Sunil Wijeratne and Ranjith Somawansa are reportedly vying for the post.
