A three-way cold war has started in the Uva Province for the Chief Ministerial post following the election victory of the sitting Chief Minister Harin Fernando.

Fernando won the general election, obtaining more than 200,000 preference votes.

Provincial Councilors Jayantha Kannangara, Upali Samaraweera and Anura Vidanagamage are reportedly competing to be appointed as Chief Minister.

It is also reported that Kannangara has the blessing of Fernando.

Both Kannangara and Samaraweera contested the general election but failed to enter the parliament.
