The Sri Lanka Freedom Party parliamentary team effectively acknowledged the split in the party on the national government issue when the elected parliamentarians met the President this afternoon.
Former Minister Mahinda Amaraweera told Asian Mirror that an agreement was reached on this issue. Accordingly, those who oppose the national government were permitted to sit in opposition side at the parliament, he said.
Therefore, a section of the SLFP is likely to sit in opposition.
On August 21, the UNP and the SLFP came to an agreement to form a national government for a period of two years.
