Former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena was further remanded till September 9 by Gampaha Magistrate’s Court over an alleged assault.

 

Police arrested him on August 24 over a complaint filed by a youth who alleged that he was assaulted by the former Deputy Minister during the election period. The youth stated that he had opposed the erection of election banners of Gunawardena's wife Chithari Gunawardena, in violation of election law.

 

The incident allegedly occurred near the Gampaha Courts.
