The Ceylon Workers' Congress led by Arumugam Thondaman and the EPDP led by Douglas Devananda will support the national government, political reports said.

The CWC supported the UPFA during the recent general election and contested under the UPFA ticket in the Nuwara Eliya District. Two of its members were elected to parliament. Meanwhile the party contested alone in several other districts but failed to win any seats.

Meanwhile the EPDP contested the election alone and Devananda was elected from Jaffna District. The EPDP was also a staunch supporter of the UPFA during the government of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
