Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to his country's cricket team, hours after its victory in the third Test against Sri Lanka.

This marked the first series win by India in Sri Lanka in two decades. Also, it was the first away series win for India in four years.

"Congratulations to the Indian Cricket Team for the historic series win against Sri Lanka. We are proud of the Team's impressive performance" Modi Tweeted.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 117 runs, registering a 2-1 win in the series. Ravichandran Ashwin was named man of the series.
