Pradeep Nilanga Dela was re-elected as the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa a short while ago.

He received 205 votes in the election held at the Buddhist Centre in Kandy.

Basnayake Nilame of Sri Natha Devalaya in Kandy Gayan Heenkenda received 53 votes while former Diyawadana Nilame Neranjan Wijeratne received 31 votes.

Chief Prelates of the Raja Maha Viharas in the territory of the former Kandyan Kingdom and selected officials were entitled to vote in the election.

A total of 301 individuals were entitled to vote in the election.

The Diyawadana Nilame is the lay custodian of the Sri Dalada Maligawa (The Temple of the Tooth). He is appointed for a duration of ten years.
