Theripaha Siridhamma Thero, who was at the forefront in the Rathupaswala protests in 2013, launched a fast at the Bandaranaike International Airport, demanding the arrest of the Brigadier who is said to have ordered the shooting of protesters.
The Army and protesters clashed on August 1, 2013, at Weliweriya town, resulting in the death of several protesters. Brigadier Deshapriya Gunawardena, who allegedly gave the order to shoot the protesters was later posted to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Turkey.
A group of protesters gathered at BIA anticipating the Brigadier's return today.
