The Court of Appeal today ordered the Central Environmental Authority to submit a report of the water quality of drinking water sources around the controversial factory in the area.

This order was given when the writ petition filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice and Siyane Water Protection Organization (Syana Jala Surakime Vyaparaya).

Appeals Court Judge Vijith Malalgoda directed the CEA to submit the report on or before November 13.

The said factory allegedly polluted water sources in Rathupaswala leading to massive protests in 2013. Several people were killed on August 1, 2013, during clashes between the army and protesters.
