UNP Parliamentarian Harin Fernando's Chief Ministerial candidacy for the Uva Provincial Council still hangs in the balance as the Party's National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is yet to give the green light for the move.
A special meeting in this regard will be held today at 11.30 am with the participation of Wickremesinghe and Fernando.
Fernando has already expressed willingness to sacrifice his Parliamentary seat and contest the Uva Provincial Council election on the grounds that the party keeps his MP seat vacant until the end of the election. The large majority of Working Committee members are of the view that the party should agree with Fernando's condition, Asian Mirror learns.
A final decision on the matter has not been made so far as Wickremesinghe was on a study tour to the USA for one month. He returned to the country on May 15.
Fernando has also informed the party that all Parliamentarians representing the UNP should support his election campaign irrespective of differences of opinion within the party.
