Causing embarrassment to the government, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced today that Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena was never appointed as the vice President of the WHO.
Sri Lankan media yesterday 'went to town' with the story that the Sri Lankan Health Minister has been appointed as a Vice President of the world's largest health organization.
Official Twitter account of the World Health Organisation, today said that Minister Maithripala Sirisena was not appointed as a Vice President of the WHO, but was only appointed as one of the five vice presidents of the 67th World Health Assembly. It is still a question as to who made the wrong announcement in Sri Lanka, misinterpreting the Health Minister's real title.
The World Health Organozation made this announcement responding to a twitter post that came from the official Twitter account of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa.
