JHU bigwig Minister Patalie Champika Ranawaka is to hold a special discussion with Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera over a wide range of matters concerning Sri Lanka's politics.
Speaking to 'Asian Mirror', a JHU stalwart said the meeting would take place early next week. Sobhitha Thera will take part in the discussion in his capacity as the Convener of the People's Movement for a Just Society.
The meeting comes in the wake of the JHU's decision to skip the vote on the no-confidence motion presented by the UNP against the government. The discussion is of great significance as Sobhitha Thera's name has already been proposed as a potential common candidate to be fielded at the next Presidential election.
The discussion between Minister Ranawaka and Sobitha Thera will be based on abolition of the Executive Presidency and re-implementation of the 17th amendment. When contacted by 'Asian Mirror', a high ranking official of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) said Ranawaka has not informed the UPFA of any such discussion with Sobhitha Thera.
