Media Spokesman of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran said his party is yet to decide on the President's invitation to Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran to be part of the Presidential Delegation to India's Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi's swearing in ceremony.
"This morning we got to know that there has been an invitation from the Presidential Secretariat. We need to discuss about this invitation before arriving at a decision," Premachandra told 'Asian Mirror'.
Sources close to Northern Province Chief Minister Wigneswaran said the latter will hold discussions with members of the Northern Provincial Council as well as with top rung leaders of the Tamil National Alliance before confirming his participation.
However, the Sri Lankan government still remains hopeful about Wigneswaran participation in the swearing in ceremony of Narendra Modi.
Indian media dubbed the Sri Lankan President's move as "a big step towards reconciliation in his own country and defusing anger among Indian Tamil parties over his visit."
