Malinda Seneviratne Wins Gratiaen Prize At Last

Editor in Chief of 'The Nation' Newspaper Malinda Seneviratne has won the Gratiaen Prize - 2013 for creative writing in English for his collection of poetry 'Edges'.

Seneviratne, one of the most profound creative writers in Sri Lanka, has so far been shortlisted for the Gratiaen Prize five times.

Born to Gamini Seneviratne was a civil servant and Indrani Seneviratne a teacher, Seneviratne was educated at Royal College, Colombo and in 1983 was selected to the University of Peradeniya in arts stream. While studying at the University, Malinda was offered a scholarship from Harvard University  to major in sociology. He graduated in 1993 and enrolled at Cornell University to commence work on a PhD, however after completing the course work, he dropped out.
 
He is known for his anti American political views and espouses the Jathika Chinthanaya school of thought. Before assuming duties as the Editor in Chief of 'The Nation', he was widely recognized for his columns in several newspapers namely Daily Mirror, Daily News, Lakbima News and The Nation.
