Sri Lanka's influential Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara is to bid adieu to his position as the Secretary of the Economic Development Ministry.
Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka will replace Dr. Jayasundara as the new Secretary of the Economic Development Ministry.
It was reported that Dr. Jayasundara had some issues with some politicians in the government over his reluctance to release funds for the projects initiated by them.
However, it is still not clear whether the 'shuffling' of positions comes as a result of the tension between Dr. Jayasundara and his detractors.
Meanwhile, media reports also stated that trade unions of the health sector had also demanded the removal of Dr. Jayathilaka from his position as the Secretary of the Health Ministry.
Dr. Jayasundara held the top administrative position at the Ministry of Economic Development in addition to his position as the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
