Widow Of Embilipitiya Youth Files FR Petition Against Police

The widow of Sumith Prasanna Jayawardena, who died following a clash with the police in Embilipitiya in January, filed a Fundamental Rights petition with the Supreme Court, demanding Rs 10 million as compensation for her husband's death.

She has named ten respondents in her petition including the former ASP of Embilipitiya D.W.C. Dharmaratne, the IGP and the Attorney General.

She requests the Supreme Court to declare that the Statutes 11, 12 (1) and 13 (4) were violated by the respondents.

Furthermore, the petitioner requested the Supreme Court to order the police not to intimidate the witnesses of the 'torture and killing' of her husband.
