JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake challenged the Inspector General of Police to disclose any illegal party office of the JVP in Uva province.
Dissanayake has made this remark in response to the IGP’s claim that illegal party offices are the main reason behind escalation of election violence in Uva Province. He added that the JVP was at the receiving end of the violence unleashed by goons who operate with the overt and covert blessings of the government.
"It is the duty of the Police to investigate into incidents of violence and arrest those who are responsible for attacks," Dissanayake has said
adding that the JVP is extremely disappointed with the conduct of the Police. The JVP Leader also stated that the IGP is is not in a position to ensure law and order in the province.
When asked about his recent remarks over the Uva Provincial Council election, Dissanayake has said, “if the government wants a maravaranaya (election of thuggery) instead of mathivaranaya (democratic election) the JVP is ready for that.”
Dissanayake said his party would mobilize masses and garner the support of the public against thuggery and hooliganism that rule the roost at the Uva Provincial Council election campaign.
An assessment done by Campaign For Free And Fair Elections (CaFFe) election monitors has reported that a total of 317 incidents of election violence have been reported from the Uva Province up to now.
