The Chinese research vessel "Shi Yan 6" has commenced its research activities in the western sea of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA), marking an important step in international maritime research cooperation.

The "Shi Yan 6" arrived at the Port of Colombo on October 25, and following due permissions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the vessel has initiated its research endeavors today, which will continue through tomorrow, October 31.

This joint research effort involves the collection of water samples from the West Sea, utilizing the advanced technology available on the Chinese research ship. Researchers and personnel from NARA, along with Navy officers, are actively participating in this research initiative, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in oceanic research.

Yesterday, on October 29, NARA Institute officials conducted inspections of the Chinese research ship "Shi Yan 6," which had recently docked in Sri Lanka. Four NARA officers and two Navy officers were part of the inspection team, ensuring that all preparations were in order for the research activities.

The research activities aboard "Shi Yan 6" are slated to include tests on various aspects of seawater, including salinity and temperature. It's worth noting that these tests have been carried out consistently from 2010 to 2019, highlighting the enduring commitment to understanding and managing the marine environment.
