The Borella Police are currently investigating a major theft at the laboratory of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute, in which property estimated to be nearly one lakh rupees in value was stolen. Among the stolen items are crucial materials used for food inspection, sparking concerns about the implications of this theft on the institute's work.

A deputy director of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute has reported the theft, highlighting that the stolen property includes seven bottles containing two types of chemicals essential for food inspection. Additionally, three packets of "sudu" (a substance commonly used for food testing) were among the stolen items. The stolen materials play a significant role in the institute's work, particularly in ensuring the safety and standards of food products in Sri Lanka.

The break-in and theft occurred in the laboratory located on the first floor of the Sri Lanka Institute of Standards at Victoria Place, Alvitigala Mawatha, Borella. The authorities have been alerted to the incident, and investigations are currently underway to determine the details of the theft, identify potential suspects, and recover the stolen property.

In response to this incident, Chief Inspector Janaka Priyadarshana Withanage, Station Commander of the Borella Police, has instructed the Criminal Investigation Division to spearhead the investigation.
