In the wake of MP Chaminda Wijesiri's sudden resignation earlier today, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is considering Nayana Wasalathilake as a potential replacement. The announcement comes as the party seeks to fill the void left by Wijesiri, who tendered his resignation during the first parliamentary session of 2024.

SJB General Secretary MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara stated that Nayana Wasalathilake is being considered as the replacement based on the established party preferential votes list. 

Chaminda Wijesiri's resignation, which was disclosed during the parliamentary session, has prompted the SJB leadership to swiftly address the need for a replacement from the Badulla District. Nayana Wasalathilake, who has been part of the party's preferential votes list, emerges as a potential candidate for the position.
