Showers Expected in Parts of Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers in some regions of Sri Lanka today, primarily after 2:00 p.m. Showers or thundershowers are anticipated in select areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Mannar districts during the afternoon.

Misty conditions may prevail in certain areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts during the morning hours. In the evening or night, showers or thundershowers are expected in a few locations in the sea areas off the coast from Mannar to Matara via Puttalam, Colombo, and Galle.

Wind patterns are expected to be southwesterly or variable, with speeds ranging from 20-30 kmph. However, wind speeds could escalate to 40-45 kmph intermittently in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa may experience fairly rough conditions at times, while other sea areas around the island are expected to be slight. During thundershowers, there is a possibility of temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas.
