The victim, identified as Hikkaduwa Koralage Prasanna Kumara(43 year old), also known as ‘Hichchi Malli’, was brutally attacked with a sword while he slept in his home, in the Kurundakanda area of Thotagoda, Akmeemana police division.

The assailant, purportedly involved in a drug-related dispute, fled the scene after also critically injuring the victim's elder brother.
The injured sibling is currently receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
