Supreme Court Begins Hearing of Petitions Against Proposed Electricity Bill

 

Today, the Supreme Court commenced the hearing of petitions challenging certain clauses of the Sri Lanka Electricity Bill recently presented to Parliament by the government.
The three-member bench, comprising Justices Vijith Malalgoda, Shiran Gunaratne, and Arjuna Obeysekera, presided over the proceedings.
Additional Solicitor General Viveka Siriwardena, representing the Attorney General, underscored the government's aim to enhance the efficiency of electricity generation, distribution, and sales, ensuring convenient service for consumers.
The petitioners, including Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union secretary Ranjan Jayalal among 14 parties, began presenting their arguments following the government's submissions.
