With Sri Lanka's Presidential Election set for September 21, 2024, TikTok is ramping up efforts to combat misinformation on its platform. The company has partnered with the IFCN-accredited fact-checking organization Newschecker to address election-related content.

TikTok has introduced the Sri Lanka Election Center, available in English, Sinhala, and Tamil, to provide users with accurate election information. Enhanced reporting tools allow users to flag misleading content more effectively.

The platform’s strategy includes removing content that violates guidelines, limiting the spread of unverified claims, and redirecting searches to credible sources. TikTok is also collaborating with safety councils and civil society organizations to ensure election integrity and transparency.
