Mavai Senathirajah, leader of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK), officially endorsed Sajith Premadasa of the Samagi Jana Balavega for the upcoming presidential election. The endorsement was announced yesterday, signaling ITAK's support for Sajith.
Shortly after the endorsement, Senathirajah was seen at a public meeting in Kilinochchi, which was organized to support the Tamil Common Candidate, P. Arianethran. This dual involvement has raised questions about ITAK’s political strategy and alignment.
The ITAK’s six-member committee, led by Senathirajah, met in Vavuniya to review election manifestos. Key figures in the meeting included Parliamentarians S. Sreedharan, President’s Counsel MA Sumanthiran, Party General Secretary P. Sathyalingam, Senior Deputy Leader CVK Sivagnanam, and former Batticaloa Mayor Thyagaraja Saravanabavan.
During the Vavuniya meeting, Senathirajah reiterated the party’s decision to support Sajith Premadasa and urged voters to back him in the presidential election on the 21st.
His presence at the Kilinochchi meeting, Senathirajah highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration, stating, “Whatever decisions we have taken, risking our lives for our freedom, I expressed my opinion here that it is necessary to come to this public meeting and work together for the freedom I mentioned.”
