Political parties and groups backing former President Ranil Wickremesinghe are set to contest together under a unified political alliance in the upcoming parliamentary election.
While discussions are ongoing, no final decisions have been made. A meeting is scheduled for this morning, involving representatives from the United National Party (UNP) and Ranil Wickremesinghe, focusing on the election strategy and potential alliance symbols.
Later today, Ranil will also meet with supporters from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) to finalize their electoral approach.
The newly formed “Podujana Eksath Nidahas Peramuna,” comprising MPs who previously backed Ranil Wickremesinghe, is still awaiting approval from the Election Commission to contest under the “trophy” symbol. If approval is not granted, they are considering using the “chair” symbol instead.
