The Polgolla Reservoir will undergo essential maintenance from September 28 to September 30, as said by the Polgolla Mahaweli Dam Engineering Office. The reservoir will be emptied starting at 1:00 AM on Saturday and will remain empty until 6:00 PM on Monday.
This maintenance is critical for ensuring the safe operation of the dam. Residents living upstream and downstream are advised to refrain from using the Mahaweli River during this time. Engineer D.M. Dharmadasa requested the public to conserve water, noting that water supply disruptions will occur from midnight on September 27 until 6:00 PM on September 29.
The Water Supply and Drainage Board has showed that several areas, including Harispattuwa, Pahatha Dumbara, and Akurana, will experience interrupted water supply. Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Board has confirmed that there will be no power outages due to this maintenance, although power generation at the Ukuwela Power Station will be temporarily halted.
