The Election Commission says that five nominations for the upcoming 2024 general elections have been submitted, including those from the Janasetha Peramuna Party and three independent groups.

The Janasetha Peramuna Party has filed nominations for the Jaffna and Vanni electoral districts, while the independent groups have submitted nominations for Colombo, Kalutara, and Batticaloa. A total of 122 independent groups have placed bonds for the elections.

In preparation for the nomination period, a special security program will be implemented. The police have announced that rallies will be prohibited during the final days of nomination submissions.

Nominations will be accepted until October 11, 2024, with the general elections scheduled for November 14, 2024.
