Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, recently pardoned after serving time for contempt of court, is reportedly contemplating a shift from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to contest the upcoming General Election with a new party, pending the restoration of his civic rights.
Ranjan Ramanayake expressed his intention to pursue this opportunity, saying, “I have met with experts regarding my civic rights. If granted, I will run for election.” He noted that although he received a poll card for the recent Presidential election, he was unable to vote due to travel commitments.
Rajan said that several parties have approached him with invitations to contest the election, indicating he is weighing his options carefully. He plans to consult with the Election Commission to confirm his eligibility before making any final decisions.
