Blue Whale 2024 Enhances Amphibious Warfare Skills

The third iteration of the Marines Field Training Exercise Blue Whale 2024, organized by the Sri Lanka Navy Marines, concluded successfully on October 10, 2024.

Held along the beach and sea areas of Mollikulam in the Northwestern Naval Command, the exercise focused on the strategic entry of forces by sea into enemy-controlled territories, aiming to secure and liberate regions while restoring law and order.

The Sri Lanka Navy Ship (SLNS) Shakthi deployed troops using Inshore Patrol Craft and Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) across three phases, following standard amphibious warfare tactics. A Bell 212 helicopter from the Sri Lanka Air Force supported the operation by facilitating troop transfers and casualty evacuations.

In total, 25 naval personnel from Pakistan, Maldives, and Bangladesh participated, alongside 195 members of the Sri Lanka Navy, including personnel from various specialized units such as the Naval Infantry, Marines, and the Medical branch.
