The Sri Lanka Station Masters' Union (SLSMU)warned of a strike beginning at midnight tomorrow if their demands are not addressed in the upcoming discussion with the subject minister Vijitha Herath, scheduled for today (30).
The meeting is scheduled at 11.00 a.m.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, union President Sumedha Somarathne stated that discussions held yesterday (29) with the General Manager of Railways were unsuccessful.
The SLSMU’s decision to initiate immediate trade union action stems from issues related to the position of Railway Station Master.
Somarathne added that they have taken this step due to the lack of a favorable response from authorities regarding promotions and other long-standing demands.
