The transportation of ballot boxes and election officials for the 2024 general election is set to begin this morning, according to the Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake. The operation will take place across 49 distribution centers, ensuring that officials and ballot boxes reach all 13,314 polling stations in time for tomorrow's election.
In preparation, Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa confirmed that special security measures have been implemented to safeguard the transportation process.
A total of 8,352 candidates are competing in this year’s election, with 5,006 representing political parties and 3,346 running as independents. The election is scheduled for November 14th, with 17,140,354 eligible voters expected to cast their ballots. Voting will begin at 7 a.m. tomorrow.
