Appointing suitable candidates to fill the remaining four slots of the National List of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is taking time as it is a sensitive matter, SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa said.
Speaking to the media after a discussion with Kandy District election candidates at the Opposition Leader's office today (27 November), Premadasa stated that resolving the issue requires careful deliberation.
“There is a very emotional story behind the defeated MPs who are demanding the National List seat. We need to think carefully and make a decision. However, we will resolve this issue as soon as possible,” he assured.
Premadasa also used the opportunity to criticise the government, accusing it of failing to deliver on its promises. “The current government is not fulfilling what it said on stage. They promised to reduce fuel prices and electricity bills, but nothing has been reduced yet. The government must explain this deception to the people,” he said, adding, “They lied to the people to gain power and are now resorting to the IMF.”
Former MP Tissa Attanayake, who was also present at the discussion, clarified to the media that he had not requested a National List MP position.
