The Gampaha Police Divisional Crime Detective Bureau has arrested two key suspects involved in the Rs. 75 million robbery from a cash-in-transit company. The arrests were made in the Minuwangoda area, and police recovered approximately Rs. 4 million of the stolen money.
Earlier, on 19 November, another suspect was apprehended in the Kaduwangaha area of Gampaha. This individual, a 35-year-old resident of Makavita, Thammita, was found in possession of Rs. 31,515,291 of the stolen cash and 5 grams and 420 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’).
The incident unfolded when four employees of a private cash-in-transit company arrived at a private bank in Minuwangoda. While the team was inside the bank, the driver made off with the cash-laden van, leading to the massive heist.
Investigations continue as the Police work to recover the remaining stolen cash.
